Dear members of the Conrail/SAA BLET GCA,

We are pleased to inform you that Non-Participating Members Open Enrollment is now underway for the BLET Group Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and Life Insurance GCA plans underwritten by Prudential. This enrollment period is open to all Actively Working BLET Members (engineers and conductors) who are NOT currently enrolled in any of these plans.

Enrollment Deadline: May 28, 2025
Coverage Effective Date: June 1, 2025

Note: Members currently enrolled in the GCA Disability and Life Insurance plan will have their annual open enrollment later this year to make changes or add coverage.

Only during open enrollment can you enroll with no medical questions or tests.  

Additionally, these disability policies have special provisions protecting BLET Members if/when they lose certifications or licenses for medical reasons such as sleep apnea, seizures and color blindness  The following coverage options are available,

Short-Term Disability (24/7 Coverage)

• Weekly benefit options up to $600 paid tax-free.
• Benefits begin after 30 days of being disability and pay for up to 1 year.
• Stacked with other benefits (e.g., RRB sickness benefits) up to 80% of weekly earnings.

Long-Term Disability (24/7 Coverage)

• Monthly benefit options up to $6,000 paid tax-free.
• Benefits begin after 1 year of being disabled (once STD ends)
• Choice of coverage duration: 2 years or 5 years
• Helps bridge the income gap while awaiting RRB occupational disability approval

Life Insurance (24/7 Coverage)

• Coverage up to $200,000 (plus equal Accidental Death & Dismemberment).
• Guaranteed approved – no medical questions or tests.
• Spouse and child coverage available when Member Life Insurance is elected
