Switching Limits
Updated On: Nov 30, 2013

Switching Limits are not to be confused with Subdivision limits. Switching limits are agreed upon limits of a terminal, while subdivision limits are generally the limits of a Train Dispatchers territory (i.e. Switching limits in Buffalo extend from QD 8.2 Bayview to QC 427.93 Babcock Lumber, while the Buffalo Terminal subdivision extends from CP382 (Chili Jct QC 382.6) to CP-15 (North Evans QD 15.5). Notice the difference between the two.

Switching limits are the limits of the "yard" or "terminal" and play a heavy part in where yard and road crews can go, and where relief service is provided. Reference to your contract as to what road and yard crews can do and where is key when mixed with the switching limits. If you have questions contact your Local Chairman.
